Recap: Outreach Season Has Begun!

It has been a busy 2 weeks for AAHI volunteers and staff where we attended 4 outreach events. The weather is finally turning warmer and it was great to reconnect with our community members!

On Sunday April 10, we attended the Songkran Festival hosted by the Wat Thai Buddhist Temple. As part of the Thai New Year celebration, there were many cultural activities and festive foods available. Our Health Promoters provided outreach and education on several health topics, including breast cancer, hepatitis B, osteoporosis, local resources, diabetes, and patient-physician communication.

Over the weekend of April 16-17, AAHI was at the Cambodian New Year Celebration hosted by the Cambodian Buddhist Society and also the Sri Lankan New Year Celebration hosted by the Maryland Buddhist Viharaya. Both events were well attended by community members participating in the festivities. AAHI was able to provide general health information at our Resource Table and the Wheel of Mental Health was a huge hit!

Then on this past Sunday April 24, AAHI joined the Viet Nam Medical Assistance Program (VNMAP) for their Health Fair at the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC)'s Pan-Asian Volunteer Health Clinic. Attendees were able to participate in a variety of health screenings. AAHI provided health information and resources on topics such as hepatitis B, blood pressure, heart health and mental health.

Thank you Wat Thai Buddhist Temple, Cambodian Buddhist Society, Maryland Buddhist Viharaya, and VNMAP for having us at your cultural celebrations and health fair!
