Come join Suburban Hospital to learn about how diabetes progresses and what essential lifestyle modifications can slow or prevent the onset of diabetes. This class is ideal for anyone diagnosed with pre‐diabetes or is at‐risk for developing diabetes due to family or personal health history. The class is taught by a registered nurse and certified diabetes educator.

10th Annual Cancer Education & Screening Day

Date: Saturday, October 4, 2014
Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Location: Holy Cross Hospital, Professional Community Education Center, 1500 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910 (Metro accessible). Free parking is available in the Dameron Employee Garage.

Join Holy Cross Hospital for their 10th Annual Cancer Education & Screening Day! There will be free clinical and health screenings, as well as an interactive health fair with information and resources for all! Screenings will be provided on a first‐come, first‐served basis. For women, you must be over the age of 21 to receive clinical screenings, which include clinical breast exams and Pap testing. Pre‐registration for these screenings are available online at http://goo.gl/K1uD18. Both men and women are invited to participate in other free screenings that will be provided, such as body fat, osteoporosis, and blood pressure testing. Limited foreign language assistance will be provided.

AAHI is Hiring!

AAHI is currently seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Program Coordinator! The Behavioral Health Program Coordinator will help increase awareness and provide education on behavioral health and related services to County residents. Responsibilities include: creating educational materials, attending outreach activities, organizing trainings for Health Promoters, conducting literature reviews and promising practices research, and networking with behavioral health providers.

Lung Cancer Education & Screening Event

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital will be offering low-dose CT lung cancer screenings! Eligible candidates include men and women ages 55-74, individuals with a smoking history (one pack per day for 30 years, two packs per day for 15 years, or three packs per day for 10 years), and individuals with significant exposure to secondhand smoke and/or asbestos. In many cases, early detection of lung cancer can lead to effective treatments so do not miss out on this great opportunity!

GNFA Health Fair

Come join the Guru Nanak Foundation of America (GNFA) for a free health fair! A variety of vendors and physicians will provide health information and free vision, hearing, and dental exams. In addition, there will be free flu shots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lab tests, which will require 8 hour fasting, will take place on Sunday, September 7th from 8 am – 11 am at GNFA. You will be able to discuss these test results with physicians at the health fair on Sunday, September 14th.
